2022 has been an interesting year so far.
If you’re like most franchise owners, you’re scratching your head and wondering what more can 2022 throw at you. Here are just a few things that have impacted most people and business.
- Soaring gas prices
- Food shortages
- Supply chain problems
- Wars around the world
- Political unrest
If I didn’t know better, I would think we’re living inside some apocalyptic movie. The sad reality is that we’re not, so finding our way through this is key to your business's success.
It was easier during the pandemic because the normal buying cycles of consumers was disrupted. People had extra money from government bail outs and flocked to home improvement companies to improve the look of their homes. Most of you experienced your best year in 2020 because of this.
Now the normal seasonal cycles we knew from before the pandemic are back so when you couple that with all the world problems it makes times like June (a normally slow month for leads) even worse.
So how do we prepare and make it through the second half of the year? First of all, it’s not going to be easy for some, especially businesses that are new. The key will be to plan further ahead than you have in the past. For example, getting at least 2 months booked out is vital right now! I’ll talk about how to do this in just a minute but building a cushion now will make booking in November and December easier. Next, around August, use your 2-month cushion and try to extend that cushion to 2.5 to 3 months.
How do you do this?
- You need leads to do jobs. Here at Hubsuite we’re working on getting you all a marketing plan that will include:
- Knowing you Cost per lead to see if your ad spend will sustain you through the year.
- Develop seasonal display ads and promos to attract more customers. We're working on this and will have it ready next month.
- Understand your sales rates. You should always be shooting for a 25% conversion rate or better. If you find it hard to be above 25% make a commitment to getting there, it’s really important. Here’s what you can do:
- Sales training, we offer group and individual training to help.
- Analyze you sales pitch and change things up if necessary.
- Practice! Use your spouse or friend but practice as much as you can.
- Understand your customer better. Make your pitch more personalized and try to make a meaningful connection.
- Don’t make excuses! Just because you’ve tried everything you know doesn’t mean you’ve tried everything. Seek understanding and learn more and more. Become the salesman your business needs.
- Schedule better. How you schedule is more important than ever. Use it as a tool to find people who either need the work done sooner or don’t mind if it’s later. Schedule the ones that need it done sooner as soon as possible where you can start loading up your schedule down the road with people who might not mind if it’s pushed out a little.
- Build capacity into your business. The more jobs you can do the better. Find the best ways to do things and strive to be better every day. By doing this you’ll be able to be more flexible in your scheduling and you’ll be able to pack more revenue into shorter periods of time.
No one likes uncertainty but it’s a reality of business ownership. You can finish this year strong, don’t accept that just because it’s a weird year that your sales will be down. It takes planning and leadership to weather the storm.
